The FDA recently announced a temporary easing of food labeling guidelines, which enables packaged food manufacturers to replace certain ingredients without alteration of labels, with a view to avoiding potential disturbance of the food supply chain in the throes of a Covid-19 pandemic
This same guideline intended to address problems that might arise if manufacturers had trouble obtaining ingredients and only relatively small amounts of ingredients found in foods.
But alarms was raised immediately for people with allergies or special dietary needs who had to be sure of what they were eating. The FDA has written to present its concern more than 28,000 consumers.
